Asheville

Design Workshop's Asheville office initially opened to support our continuing work at the Biltmore Estate and other regional resort planning and design initiatives. With a staff comprised of landscape architects, planners and a professional support staff the office is primarily focused on resort development from the Caribbean to the northern Appalachian Ridge, cultural and conservation-based planning, strategic services, urban design, public place-making and community planning opportunities throughout the southeastern United States.

Nestled in the scenic Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, Asheville has been well-known as a health resort and vacation destination for dignitaries and celebrities since the early 1850's. When the railroad came to Asheville in 1880, it brought a young aristocrat named George Vanderbilt who fell in love with the rich beauty of the area. A few years later, he purchased 125,000 acres and built one of the largest private residences in America, a place known as the Biltmore Estate.
