Brownfields

Since its inception in 1969, Design Workshop has assumed a leading role in the revitalization of contaminated, abandoned, idled or underutilized industrial and commercial properties commonly referred to as brownfields. We believe every site possesses special assets that can be discovered and leveraged to create opportunities for development. Often, the reuse of sites is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination, inadequate infrastructure and transportation systems, and harsh public controversy. We have been involved in the successful reclamation of abandoned manufacturing sites, mining areas, refineries, municipal waste dumps, rail yards and military facilities. These projects have resulted in inspired new uses for the land and positive economic outcomes for both the private and public sectors.

On each project, Design Workshop explores the full range of possibilities, proposes the strategic direction the project should take, presents thoughtful solutions and fosters multi-party collaboration. Our technical expertise, extensive experience with regulatory agencies and knowledge of public finance methods provide our clients with an efficient and cost-effective redevelopment process. We are effective negotiators capable of reconciling diverse priorities, achieving timely approvals, setting standards for long-term stewardship of the land and increasing financial return. We are disciplined to complete projects on time and on budget without sacrificing the high quality our clients demand.
