Design Workshop is pleased to announce that they are a recipient of the 2024 Denver Mayor’s Design Awards for work on the Boulevard One Parks located in the Lowry neighborhood in Denver. Boulevard One Parks is one of 14 honored projects throughout the city for excellence in architecture, exterior design, and place-making.
“Boulevard One Parks create financial, social, recreational, and environmental value for the City of Denver and its residents,” said Jamie Fogle, technical principal at Design Workshop. “These parks were a labor of love and we worked tirelessly to meet community needs while also balancing the requirements of the local redevelopment authority, city officials, and community task forces. It is an honor to have Boulevard One Parks listed among this esteemed group of projects with the Denver Mayor’s Design Awards.”
Boulevard One, located on the west end of the historic Runway One at former Lowry Air Force Base, spent the last four decades as home to a 600,000 square-foot single-user office building and large parking lots. In the early 2000s, the brownfield site was identified as an Area of Change by Blueprint Denver and the discussion shifted toward how the site would embrace Traditional Neighborhood Design principles and blend with the surrounding neighborhoods.
Today Boulevard One is a vibrant, urban-inspired neighborhood with 13 acres (about 19 percent) of the land dedicated to parks and open space. Almost two miles of sidewalks interconnect Boulevard One’s parks and open space, dotted with over 8,000 pollinator species of shrubs, perennials, and ornamental grasses. The parks at Boulevard One build upon the success of Lowry to highlight how public and civic spaces are essential to creating a neighborhood that integrates with the surrounding community, embraces the importance of the outdoors in Colorado, and serves as a vibrant hub for multiple generations.
