DENVER — Design Workshop, an international landscape architecture, planning and urban design firm, announced today they will begin the public realm programming design phase for the Cherry Creek West Development Project, a billion-dollar redevelopment led by East West Partners to transform Cherry Creek’s west side in Denver, Colo. The project recently received governmental approval for rezoning allowing the project to move forward. After completing the initial master plan in 2021, the Design Workshop team is beginning the design phase by reimaging the public realm programming before diving into an update to the concept design.
Located on the southwest corner of the Cherry Creek neighborhood, Cherry Creek West is a 13-acre mixed-use redevelopment. When completed, it will feature about 825 residences, 600,000 square feet of office space, 100,000 square feet of retail, underground parking with over 2,000 spaces and four acres of open space. The goal is to make Cherry Creek West a 15-minute community where people can live, work, play, go to school, get medical care and gather within a 15-minute walk or bike ride.
“Cherry Creek West will serve as a gateway to the vibrant Cherry Creek neighborhood and provide a meaningful connection to Cherry Creek, one of Denver’s premier public greenways,” said Robb Berg, president of Design Workshop. “In this phase, our team will find ways through creative placemaking to seamlessly knit this development into the existing community and natural environments that surround it. In essence, we are working to fill a gap in the public realm offerings currently found in the Cherry Creek neighborhood by creating a comfortable place to hang out for a few hours and connect to the natural beauty of this place.”
With the Denver City Council’s unanimous rezoning approval, infrastructure and design work is kicking off before the end of 2024. Demolition work could begin as early as Spring 2025 with build-out happening over the next decade.
“We are proud to collaborate with a talented team of partners on Cherry Creek West, including East West Partners, Gensler, BuildMark and Cushman Wakefield. Together we are going to build a new, sustainable mixed-use community that will establish a new standard for public space in Denver,” added Berg.
