Salt Lake City, Utah
The Raging Waters/Seven Peaks Water Park was defunct and in a state of decay, becoming unfeasible to revitalize the once-loved space. Salt Lake City Public Lands saw the opportunity to redevelop the 17-acre site to provide needed park space and amenities for the community. Design Workshop was hired to create a community-led plan to create a safe, active, and communal space that embodies natural elements of the adjacent Jordan River.
To create a true regional community park, the team utilized many different engagement tactics to gather input and ideas, including open houses, online surveys, youth engagement activities, and on-site pop-up events. Reflecting this input, the team created a plan for the site that embodies the goals of recreation, access, nature, and environmental justice. The new Glendale Regional park will provide multiple opportunities for recreation, economic development, and events to create synergy in the neighborhood and surrounding areas. It will also rehabilitate the site with riparian and native vegetation to fulfill the park goals of enhancing environmental quality and justice for the Glendale neighborhood by pursuing SITES certification.
